Racers were treated to many planned and unplanned events that also make this a great venue. Humpback Whales jumping completely out of the water near the finish line of Mondays racing was a special treat and some sailors were able to view sea turtles hatching out of the sand in front of the all inclusive hotel that almost all of the crews stayed. Tuesdays race ended at the Las Caletas resort and were treated to a great Mayan show and a fantastic beach front dinner. The Marina Riviera Nayarit also did an amazing job hosting most of the boats and serving as regatta headquarters with all of the sponsors supporting the racers and free drinks and food all week.
Class “A” consisted of some very well known and some very new boats from Akela the 76’ R/P to Pendragon the brand new Davidson 76 and Peligroso the Kernin 73. At the end of the week is was the Andrews 68 Alchemy that captured top honors. Alchemy posted 4 wins in the 8 race series taking first in class “A” and second overall. This comes on the heels of wining the San Diego to Puerto Vallarta Race the week before finishing the 1000 mile race in less than 4 days.
Alchemy uses 100% Ullman Sails including GPL Carbon Medium #1 Carbon FiberPath Light #1, GPL Carbon Main, and Airx asymmetrical spinnakers.
Two of the top 3 boats in overall performance for the week at MEXORC were 100% Ullman Sails with Horizon Jack Taylors Santa Cruz 50 third overall and Alchemy Per Peterson’s Andrews 68 second.
For the fastest and most reliable sails it is an obvious choice. Ullman Sails continues to prove that they make the best and fix the rest.
