In the last few years I have learned more then I can remember when it comes to sailboat racing. One thing that keeps coming back is this lesson: Genoa Staysails can add speed to a lot of boats in man
This year's Newport to Ensenada Race was one of the classics - great breeze all day and night with a full moon and the usual 'challenging' last few miles to the finish in the morning. One of the stan

With sunny cool weather light winds and 45 boats the Cabrilo 1 race hosted by SWYC turned out to be a great race and a fantastic day of sailing. The Cabrilo 1 race starts at the mouth to San
Ullman’s FibrePath Genoa has become our “all purpose” sail for our Catalina 27, “Emerald Lady”. It has given us at least 10% greater speed to weather and allow us to reduce our on board sail inventory.
Before acquiring the FiberPath 150, we carried a 110% cross cut for heavier winds. Carrying the additional sail is no longer necessary. With the roller reefed FiberPath, we can easily reduce sail while maintaining speed and pointing ability. No longer do we have to accept going sideways with little forward speed. By reefing the FP Genoa to more than 1/3 of the LP and double reefing the Ullman main, we sail to weather in 35 knots of wind while heeling only 15 degrees.
The FibrePath sail has been great for the Puget Sound’s variable conditions. It has performed well for the last 4-1/2 years in both light and heavy air, during both cruising and racing activities. We have the Elite version with dacron taffeta on one side. Durability has been great with only needing chafe areas covered and the foot and leech caps replaced this year. Emerald Lady’s crew of two recommends it highly.
