The Stockton Sailing Club and Richmond Yacht Club join forces annually for the famous Delta Ditch Run.  This is a high wind event that winds its way through the Delta from San Francisco Bay to Stockton.  It takes a combination of navigation, boat speed, and great boat handling to get through this course as well as nerves of steel.  The course is 67.5 miles long and the elapse time in the Light 1 class was 7 hours.

This year in the Light Class 1 fleet, Steve Mollering’s and Eric Rogers Cheetah 30 Super Fly had a nearly flawless race.  The nearly flawless comes from running aground and sending the entire crew flying.  After raising the keel, taking down the spinnaker and getting back into deeper water they were back to the task at hand.  Super Fly not only won their class but won it by over 15 minutes to another Cheetah 30 Gladiator Racing.  These two boats had one thing in common besides the top 2 places, they both carried Ullman Sails as did the 5th Place boat Dos the Sierra 26.  Steve Mollering of Super Fly said “The spinnaker performed perfectly, we could not be happier”.  This is the second time this boat has won this event and they are looking forward to doing it again next year.

If you have not attended this event before it is a must do for any sailor looking for excitement and challenging sailing. Go to their web site at http://www.stocktonsc.org/ditch/ for results and count down to next years event.
