Velos at Rolex Big Boat Series

Velos the Tanton 73 from San Diego Yacht Club traveled up the coast to participate in the Rolex Big Boat Series hosted by St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco Bay.  This is one of the biggest events in the country and arguably the biggest buoy event on the West Coast with boats from all over the world.  Velos came ready to compete with 100% Ullman Sails and an expert crew of 22.  Velos the largest boat at the Rolex Big Boat Series made it’s 4th appearance chasing the coveted Rolex watch.

Velos struck first blood on the first shift of race one tacking to the right and hitting the shift that caused the rest of the fleet to over stand giving Velos a large lead and the victory of race one.  This turned out to be a trend.  With superior upwind speed Velos continued it’s winning ways by crushing the competition with 6 straight bullets and wining the class by 10 points the largest margin of victory in the regatta.  In fact Velos lead to every mark but 1 in the entire regatta.
Kjeld Hestehave the owner and driver of Velos was awarded a Rolex time piece.  Kjeld has been a long time customer of Ullman Sails and with performance like this can see no reason to change.  Velos main and headsails are made out of Dimension Polyant GPL Carbon.
Congratulations to the crew of Velos for a great job and incredible performance.
