Seattle Yacht Clubs Grand Prix Invitational Regatt:

For about 30 years Seattle Yacht Club has played host to the Grand Prix Invitational Regatta.  This is an annual regatta is dubbed the best of the best because you have to qualify to participate in it.  In its original days everyone was put in one class and only the top 3 boats were awarded.  Now there are 7 divisions including some one design divisions like the J-105 fleet that had 9 boats.

This years event was held over the weekend of 23rd through the 25th of October with wet windy conditions kicking off the distance race on Friday.  The weather did not detire the Northwest sailors surviving gust to 35 knots.  The second day was the opposite of the first day with next to no wind and abandon one race being abandon and another shutting down on the finish leg.  Sunday the wind behaved a little more allowing for 4 races and making the regatta a success.

After 3 days and all different conditions great sailors ended on top of the heap.  Taking Class 1 by 4 points was Derek Campbells Banshee the super fast Melges 32 using a carbon Fiberpath Ullman Main.  Class 2 was won by Brad Butler using Ullman Sails as well.  Class 5 the One Design J105 fleet was dominated by Ullman Sails taking the top 3 places.  These also were the only Ullman Sails in the fleet. With the well sailed Money Shot skippered by Mike Schiltz taking top honors followed by Chuck Stephens on Panic then by Erik Kristen on Jubilee.
