San Diego Yacht Club is host to the Hot Rum Series that possibly should be called the Blended Rum Series with the sun and 70 degree temperature that competitors experienced this last Sunday.

The 2009 Hot Rum Series has great participation.  The pursuit start 12 mile race is part of San Diego History.  Boats travel from as far away as Ensenada Mexico and Long Beach California to participate.  The chance of being first across the finish line out of 137 boats is as exciting as most sailors ever see.  In the past boats like Wylie Wabbits and Catalina 27’s all the way to the Canting Keel R/P 60 have won this event.  It is very common for boats of all sizes to be coming into the finish at the same time.  This years race 1 was no exception with a Carol Marine 60 skippered by Dennis Conner passing a Cal 36 in the last few feet to take 1st place just ahead of a 6 meter and a Trans Pac 52.

The second race of the 3 race series is on November 22nd with the last race on December 6th.  This race falls on the same weekend every year and has a great after race party at San Diego Yacht Club.
