The count down begins

Winter Vashon 2009:

Its one week to go until Winter Vashon and the Tacoma Yacht Club race committee has been working hard to make the necessary adjustments to make this years race a huge success. Because of confusion during the start sequence in the 2008 race, the committee has been working all year to improve all aspects of the race and to bring it to a new higher level event from this point forward.  As you may know historically the start was off of the deck of the club house with the Vashon ferry dock just a few yards to the west.  This made the starts in light air when the ferry was running very difficult.

Here are a few things that the Tacoma Yacht Club race committee has done to improve this years race.

1.       Start the race from a committee boat about 200 yards east of the original starting area this will solve two problems remove the disconnect the fleet feels when the committee starts the race of the yacht club deck and takes the problems encountered with the Vashon ferry out of the equation by moving the starting area far enough away.

2.       One of the concerns last year was not being able to see the flags or hear the sound signals so we bought larger flags and a black powder cannon this along with starting from an RC boat should solve these issues

3.       We will announce the start count down over the radio along with any other information that the competitors may need, the goal of this committee will be communication. Now just pray for wind.

This years event is Sponsored by Ullman Sails Seattle.  Get there early for free tee-Shirts!!!
