Cal 20’s were chosen because of an active race fleet already on the West Coast, ease of sailing, and availability within the budget of TYC. All of these attributes have sparked a lot of interest with one boat already being purchased with another on the way, this is very likely the catalyst that will get seasoned racers along with new comers out on the water. Since the Cal 20 takes care of the two largest concerns of TYC members it will keep the cost of racing down and the need for crew. This is just a few of the things that Tacoma Yacht Club is doing to increase participation in current and future events. TYC is also considering future city outreach programs that the boats are well suited for and can get younger people into the sport.
