Hawaiian Outrigger Canoes Ullman Sails help power tropical fun

Holopuni is the Hawaiian word for “to sail everywhere”.  Nick Beck at Holopuni Canoes in Hanalei, Kauai has done just that.   He started Holopuni Canoes to continue the traditional canoes that were origionly made from the rare Koa wood of Hawaii.  Since the Koa tree is rare and considered threatened Nick makes the Holopuni Canoes out of modern material and has started a new class of outrigger canoes that have caught on and are highly competitive.  Some of the races go between the islands of Hawaii like the race this last Memorial Day from Nawiliwili to Hanalei Bay Kauai 30 miles of open ocean sailing and paddling in the strong trade winds of Hawaii.

The Holopuni Canoe sailing rigs come standard with Ullman Sails.  Ullman Sails have worked with Nick Beck and Holopuni Canoes for many years perfecting the out rigger canoe set up.  Many championships have been won and a lot of fun has been had.  This is one of many projects that Ullman Sails has been part of from the beginning.  To learn more about Holopuni Outrigger Canoes follow this link: http://holopunicanoes.com.
