Steve got his start sailing at Balboa Yacht Club in 1961 sailing Sabots, and other dinghies. As his passion grew for sailing he progressed to racing big boats. Steve started his sailmaking career in 1974 with Hood Sailmakers in Costa Mesa. After that Steve worked for Ullman Sails Newport Beach for 3 years. Steve was offered a job with Hobie Cat at which time he moved to San Diego. Steve was laid off along with many other workers at the time.  Steve eventually went to work with Ullman Sails  San Diego,

 and after 9 months of employment he was offered a partnership in the loft.  Steve has raced many one-design classes from snipes, Lightnings, Capri 22, Soling, Flying Tiger, Prindle 19, and many handicap yachts from Santana 525 to R/P 50 Staghound. Steve has been actively campaigning the Flying Tiger Niuhi from San Diego.
