In 2000 the class adopted the spinnaker and second trapeze. This kept the class at the front of development and increased performance once again. Ullman Sails has been at the fore front of sail development for the Tornado and has won most of the Olympic medals in this class over the last several Olympics. Charlie Ogletree of Ullman Sails won the silver medal in the 2004 Olympics.
Pablo Soldano of Ullman Sails Italy is the lead designer in the Tornado Class and recently was named by the class as the exclusive sailmaker to the class. This means that every Tornado will be sailing with Ullman Sails. This was awarded to Ullman Sails because of their devotion to the class and the track record of great performance. Ullman Sails Italy has a mast bend replicator on premise where they can set Tornado mast in the jig and custom fit a main to each mast type to duplicate performance. Ullman Sails Italy also works on the Formual 18 sails and A Cat mains.
