Women for WomenUllman Sails Supports Women SailorsMon, 10th May 2010By Sunny Chamblee ![]() J35 Preditor with Ullman FiberPath Main Oceanside Yacht Club's Women for Women Inaugural Regatta race turned out to be a great race and a great day on water, sun shining, and perfect winds. We were able to make 2 classes from 6 boats. All boats complete with women only. No men allowed on this race. Why, you ask? For several reason; Let the Ladies play, because Girls just wanna have fun!! Most importantly, in aim to grow the sport of sailing to more women. The charity for the event was the Oceanside's Women’s Resource center. The ladies fundraised just over $2,000 for the organization, a decent start for our first time regatta. Part of money raised came from three amazing Pink Sail bags donated by Ullman!! Thank you Ullman! :) So how did the day’s race go? We started with 2 windward leeward’s followed by a random leg race. We had 6 boats altogether; 2 classes of racers consisting of 3 Spinn and 3 Non-Spinn. Spinnaker Class results: 1st: Sirocco, J 130 skippered by Cathy Sweet, 2nd: Predator, J 35 skippered by Terri Manok, 3rd: Doll Fun, Catalina 34 skippered my Barbara Sanford and Cindy Wynne. Non Spin class: 1st place: Double Trouble, Merit 25 skippered by Patty Mangels, 2nd place: Freedom, Sonar 23 skippered by Jane Dune, 3rd place: Zoom Zoom, Capri 25 skippered by Rocket Buchanan. Thank you to all the female racers who made it out. Thanks to Barbara Sanford of ALYC and her boat Doll Fun a Catalina 34. Barbara made it down from Newport to race with us. The reminder of boats were local to Oceanside.
