Evening racing in Seattle

Ullman Sails Seattle is proud to be the title sponsor of a fun new evening series - Take Your Time Friday's hosted by the Sloop Tavern Yacht Club.

For Sailors in the Pacific Northwest Friday nights have traditionally been boring, quiet, a “What do I do” kinda night.  No longer is this the case.

TYT Friday's will run on every Friday in June, July and September. It's all about getting boats on the water and having some fun. Handicaps will be adjusted weekly with the top placing boats in a race receiving a rating reduction and the bottom placing boats getting an increase. There will be an awards party hosted by Ullman Sails Seattle at the end of each month's final race.

There is no committee boat so the start is run off GPS time and you take your own finish time hence the 'Take Your Time' moniker. Finish times are emailed to the STYC site and results posted on Monday.

The series kicked off last Friday with 11 of the 28 registered boats heading out in typical June Seattle weather - rain and light wind! - but the rain cleared by the start and it turned out to be a nice evening for sailing. Two of the faster boats, Svein Ellingsen's 'Bergen Viking' and Iain Christenson's Dash 34 'Izakaya' dueled around the course with 'Izakaya' winning the battle on corrected time. Everyone had great time with a bigger turnout expected for race 2.
