James Clappier and Cody Spruce are campaigning to set a record in 2010 as the youngest crew to race the Pacific Cup, with an average age of 21 years old. The Pacific Cup is a 2,050 nautical mile distance race from San Francisco, California, to Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. James and Cody will be racing the Santa Cruz 27 "Furthur" in the double handed class.
Ullman Sails is sponsoring these two ambitious sailors. Chuck Skewes met the pair in Hawaii after the 2010 Pacific Cup when they sailed across on a Henderson 30. In that race their main had blown apart in the first few days so they completed the journey with a storm trysail for a main and used every spinnaker they brought.
James and Cody purchased a Santa Cruz 27 for this venture and on a limited budget have made it to the start of this great race to Hawaii.
We will be following them and their GPL Carbon main and Airx spinnaker hot off the loft floor from Ullman Sails. You can follow them here on our web site or at one of the links below.
