San Diego to Ensenada Dubbed as Little Ensenada

This year 62 boats competed in the San Diego to Ensenada race.  It was a light air affair with an occasional bout of 15 knots as a squall came by late at night to push the boats into Todo Santos bay on the coast of the Baja Peninsula.  The start was a reverse order to help keep the boats finishing closer together but the big boats started in slightly more wind and soon passed the smaller slower boats and extended.  The competitors were treated to an incredible cloud to cloud lightning show the entire night.  Although one small rain squall came through the course around 10:00 pm it was a warm mild night and very tricky conditions.

Tim and Karen Batcher on Eclipse did just that as they won PHRF 3 by 28 minutes as did Water Works sailed by Ray Pope in PHRF 4 wining by over an hour.  Both of these boat use Ullman Sails Red Line Asymmetric spinnakers.
Staghound having halyard problems the last hour of the race was unable to hoist their spinnaker coming into the finish and missed winning the Class and Overall win in the race by 1 minute 35 seconds.
