2012 Midwinters Regatta San Diego Races

The Southern California Yachting Association had their 83rd Midwinter Regatta the weekend of February 18 and 19, 2012. The Midwinter Regatta is a very large and competitive regatta held at over 25 individual SCYA Clubs between Los Angeles and San Diego, and even in Arizona.

San Diego had three classes out on the water; five Beneteau 36.7's, six J-105's and five J-120's. Results can be found at San Diego Yacht Clubs website.

The dolphins in the bay were kind enough to give crews a flight demonstration during the trip out to the race course, which was 3 miles out from the entrance to the bay. Saturday was a great day for racing as the wind remained consistent and the kelp was minimal. The forecast for Sunday was stronger breeze, which eventually picked up in the afternoon. It was light in the first part of the day, but one minute into the starting sequence the race committee showed a postponement flag due to a 20 degree shift in the wind, which was also increasing in speed.

Caper took the J-120 class with all 5 bullets and an all Ullman Sail Inventory. Congrats to John Laun and crew.

Wings also took the win for the J-105 class with Ullman sails placing first in 3 of the 5 races. Congrats to Dennis Case and crew.
