1st Inaugural Rum Runner Race Newport Beach to San Diego November 1

The San Diego Hot Rum Races have been an extremely fun and successful race over many years.  With approximately 200 boats in a pursuit start it can get extremely exciting.  This year to make it more fun, the San Diego Yacht Club and Balboa Yacht Club joined forces to have a delivery race.  This race was designed to give the sailors from Orange and LA counties another reason to come to San Diego for the Hot Rum Races.

The Rum Runner race held on November 1 the weekend before the first Hot Rum race started off the Balboa Pier in Corona Del Mar in light wind.  Soon after the predicted 15 to 20 knot winds came in and made a great race down the coast to San Diego.  Nearly half the fleet finished in daylight and the others soon after.

There were 4 classes.  Three mono hulls and a multihull class.  The fastest elapse time was  3 hours 43 minutes over the 75 mile course!

Class two a mix of sport boats and large heavy boats saw great conditions for the Flying Tigers.  Ullman Sails were the top 5 boats in this class.

This was a great race and Ullman Sails is happy to support it in the future.

Here are results
