The Newport to Cabo race on March 7th showed a reberth of the 70 foot sleds. Starting in light up wind conditions Grand Illusion started well and took an early lead with Holua close behind. The next morning all the boats were close together and shortly aftewards Alchemy took the lead. Alchemy using the new A-2 design from Ullman Sails extended the distance on the fleet. "The new A-2 is the nicest spinnaker I have ever seen", Said Artie Means the navigator on Alchemy, " we were able to keep our speed and sail lower making great VMG".
Alchemy was the first 70 into Cabo and missed winning the overall by 20 minutes. Congratulations to the crew of Alchemy for a great performance and good luck at the upcoming Transpac Race from Long Beach to Hawaii.
