Beneteau Cup in San Diego was a big success with 8 Beneteau 40.7 competing for the Southern California Championship. The fleet had sails from 5 different sailmakers but one came out on top. Ullman Sails on Kirk and Kathy O’Briens Drumshanbo topped the fleet in the 6-12 knot 2 day 5 race regatta. The crew of Drumshanbo had to over come running into an island of kelp in one race that took over 15 minutes to clear by eventually sending a crew member over the side and removing the kelp. In this race they went from last to passing two boats on the last beat to help save the regatta. Drumshanbo was faster upwind and downwind than the competition as they were owner driven as well. With a bad start in the last race Drumshanbo passed 4 boats after the first weather mark to win the race and seal the regatta.
