Yachting Cup is the 2nd of the 4 race Ullman Sails Inshore Championship Series. This series, in it’s 4th year consist of Ahmenson Regatta in Newport Beach, Yachting Cup in San Diego, Cal Race Week in Marina Del Rey, and ending with Ullman Sails Long Beach Race Week in Long Beach California. This series has 3 classes, Fast 50, Fast 40, and Sport Boat. The Yachting Cup had an 8 boat class A with 2 70 foot sleds, 2 TP 52’s, 2 50 footers and 2 One Design 48’s mixed with Dennis Conner and his 60 foot Farr Stars and Stripes. In the end it was the small boat on top with Chayah the One Design 48 winning the class using Ullman Sails. This boat is very well sailed and does great around the buoy’s on a consistent basis. There were a few classes at Yachting Cup that were very close and the 18 boat J-105 fleet was one with Pholly sailed by the father son team of Bill and Chris Logan coming out on top by winning the last race. Pholly took delivery of their new Ullman Running spinnaker the day before the event and it proved to be a weapon of choice. Two other classes were won by straight bullets. The Sport Boat class was completely dominated by the Melges 30 with Ullman Sails and sailed by Geoff Longenecker out of Southwestern Yacht Club. The other was the One Design class of the Flying Tigers with Mile High Klub leading to every mark of the regatta using the Ullman Sails Fiberpath Main and Jib with the Ullman Sails MK3 Spinnaker. Ullman Sails has been dominating the Flying Tiger Class in the United States from coast to coast in the last year. The parties during the Yachting Cup were also very successful with the Saturday night Tee-Shirt give away from Ullman Sails. Ullman Sails Team members handed out free Ullman Sails Tee-Shirts to everyone who came up to the Ullman table during the event. Ullman Sails also had over night sail repair available and saved the regatta for a few sailors by getting them back out on the water for the next day of sailing. If you did not get a Tee-Shirt contact Ullman Sails San Diego and they will gladly help you out while supplies last. The Ullman Sails Team also took photos on all courses and the pictures are available free of charge by contacting Ullman Sails San Diego This article was posted on Wed, 6th May 2009 |
