Congratulations to Chris Chambers and his crew on the Ullman Sails powered Ultimate 20 'Black Sheep' for capturing the coveted 2010 Spud Cup perpetual trophy! Chris and his crew sailed a near flawless series in PHRF B and was awarded the Spud Cup, a unique trophy and another reason why this event is a must do for Northwest trailerable race boats!

Spud Cup is always run over Labor Day Weekend and this year had eight races over Saturday and Sunday. Race one was on the light side but the remaining seven races were held in 15-20+ winds with the A class making short work of the one lap courses!

A class consisted of a J-90 Turbo, JS 9000, Melges 24 and three new Viper 640's. After a weekend of great racing, A class was won by Ullman Sails Seattle's Chris Winnard and crew on the Viper 640 'Disaster Area' with Tim Redfern's JS 9000 taking second with Peter Graves and family taking third in their Ullman Sails powered Melges 24 'Chaos'.

B class was dominated by Chris Chambers' 'Black Sheep' with Jerry Judd's J-80 'Go Fish' in second. Jerry has been going very fast downwind with his Ullman Redline 2A Class Spinnaker. Fred Park's CF-27 'Phantom' won race one with his new Ullman FiberPath #1 but couldn't hold off the competition as the breeze came up in the remaining races. Fred ended up fourth but will be upgrading his inventory with new Ullman Sails for next year!

C class was won by the J-22 O'Really sailed by Mr. Lockwood with all bullets. Second was Barb Sinnot's Ranger 8.5 'Tenacious' using an Ullman mainsail with Robert Muarice's 'Firefly' in third.

The six boat J-24 fleet was dominated by Ray Hendricksen's 'Red Hot Rookie' with Dennis Gregory's 'X-rated' and Ivan Rimar's 'Saphira' rounding out the top three spots.

The 2010 Spud Cup featured nice breeze, lots of races, and fun socializing. Racing on Lake Pend Oreille, whether at Sandpoint or Bayview is always a good time. Next year's Spud Cup and LPOYC's Fall Regatta will be bigger and better. Mark your calendars!
