Yachting Cup 2011

This year was probably the best conditions of any Yachting Cup in history.  The 70 to 80 degree temps with clear blue skies and 15-20 knots of wind both days made for incredible racing.  Seven One Design classes helped make up the 85 boat fleet over 3 course.  Two courses were in the ocean and one in the south bay.
Many classes were decided by one or two points often coming down to the last beat of the last race.  There were some boats showing signs of fatigue after the 3 race 20 knot winds of Saturdays racing.  Taxi Dancer one of the two 70’ sleds broke their boom and several spinnakers were taken down buy nature not crew.

This year SDYC brought back the Ton Cup on Friday before Yachting Cup as a warm up race.  This years winner of the Ton Cup is Alec Obershmid and his crew on Staghound.  Staghound also won the overall Yachting Cup/Ton Cup combined trophy.  Staghound is 100% Ullman Sails powered.
Out of the seven One Design Classes 5 of them were won with Ullman Sails and the top 2 in in the Flying Tiger, J105, and Schock 35 fleets.
