San Diego NOOD

The Sperry Top Sider NOOD Regatta in San Diego California was anything but ordinary

Unusual cloudy and cool conditions were the start to the 2009 Sperry Top Sider NOOD Regatta hosted by San Diego Yacht Club.  With boats ranging from J120’s and Beneteau 40.7’s to International 14’s it was a very competitive field with 17 J-105’s and 16 International 14’s being the largest fleets.

Although cloudy San Diego breeze was fairly typical for the first and second day with light wind and a medium swell.  The Flying Tigers, Beneteau 36.7’s and International 14’s were the only fleet to complete on Friday.  Sunday the conditions change dramatically and showed some signs of last years big wind regatta.  Wind ranged from 16 to 24 knots and mixed with an occasional rain shower.

In the end the cream always seams to come to the top as do the best sailors and sails.  Wings the J105 from San Diego owned by Dennis Case not only dominated the J105 fleet over the wide wind range, they also won the overall Sperry Top Sider NOOD Regatta with a 100% Ullman Sails inventory.  The Flying Tigers has a great fleet of 8 boats and it was tightly contested.  Winning the regatta was Mile High Klub also with 100% Ullman Sails.  Also another boat with 100% Ullman Sails was Occam’s Razor in 3rd.
This is a continuance of the domination in the Flying Tiger fleet.

Congratulations to all the winners in this years San Diego NOOD Regatta.  It was a great event and we look forward to next year.
